The Secret to a Perfect Tortilla
The tortilla liner is much more than an incidental detail — it's a fundamental piece of the tortilla-making process that ensures your masa won't stick to the press's surface and that tortillas transfer seamlessly from press to hand to pan. Masienda's custom liners are printed with a tortilla ruler (in FDA-approved food-safe ink) and are meant to be used and reused to your heart's content.
Fresh Tortillas in Minutes
Mix 1 cup Masienda Heirloom Corn Masa Harina with 1 cup warm water. (Add a pinch of salt if you desire.) Add more masa if it's too wet, more water if it's too dry. Knead until your masa is smooth (3-5 minutes). Optional: Let your masa rest (covered) for 10-20 minutes. Roll your masa into balls about the size of golf balls. Flatten a dough ball using a tortilla press lined with plastic. Remove from liner and place on a hot (400-500°F) non-stick surface. Cook for 20-30 seconds on each side, flipping three times. Remove and keep warm in a kitchen towel or tortilla warmer. Provecho!
Make Tortillas From Scratch - Use this thin, easy-to-remove plastic liner to ensure your masa won't stick to your tortilla press's surface. While designed to fit Masienda's Doña Rosa Tortilla Press, these liners can be trimmed to fit any press, including Victoria presses and wooden, steel, or cast iron presses of any size or shape.
Use and Reuse - It is recommended to wipe down liners after every use and, once dry, tuck them inside your tortilla press for next time. While they are meant to be used and reused multiple times, liners are disposable should they become damaged or dirty.
Step 1: Cut liner to fit your press. Step 2: Place trimmed liner on bottom plate. Step 3: Add your masa ball. Step 4: Place liner on top of masa and press!
